300 Years of Slavery in Brazil

Rodrigo Queiroz wanted to celebrate the 130th anniversary of slavery abolition in Brazil in 2018 with a documentary about the cultural legacy of 300 years of slavery. The Award-winning documentary Sacred Secrets was conceptualized and directed by Rodrigo Queiroz and produced by Instituto Onikoja. The documentary portraits the intersection of Brazilian and African culture and its impact on today’s social, racial and religious structure that continues to be on of intolerance and prejudice. The documentary aims to look at African cultural legacy as ingrained part of Brazilian culture. With the goal of understanding our ancestry, the need for social reparation to close racial disparities and move us towards religious tolerance and freedom and a equitable community.
